Caregiver Support Groups Meet at Providence Communities
No one plans to be the caregiver of someone with dementia, but according to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than six million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and over 11 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with dementia. They translate that into 18 billion hours of care. These unpaid caregivers make up 83 percent of the help provided to older adults with dementia. About one-fourth of those caregivers are part of what is known as “sandwich generation,” meaning they not only care for an aging loved one, but also for at least one child.
With that information in mind, Providence communities have partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association to offer free support groups that are open to the public.
Park Place of Elmhurst hosts a group on the second Thursday of every month from 9:00-10:00 a.m. This group meets in the Park Place private dining room. If you’d like more information about the this support group, contact Ann at (630) 478-9220 or [email protected].
Victorian Village in Homer Glen hosts a group on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 5:00 p.m. You can RSVP or learn more by contacting the community at [email protected] or (708) 301-0800.
These support groups allow caregivers the much-deserved break they need to come back refreshed and educated so they can be at their best. Importantly, these groups are completely confidential and non-judgmental.
If you or someone you know is a caregiver for a family member with dementia, these groups can be life-changing. Don’t hesitate to get the support you need!
